Ice skating at Evergreen Lake is one of my favorite things to do during the Winter months in Evergreen, Co. I grew up playing ice hockey and my son now plays so it is a great way for us to spend quality time together and create some amazing memories together. If you are visiting Evergreen during the Winter I highly recommend you visit Evergreen Lake, put on some ice skates and experience this magical place.
The lake is a huge part of our decision as to where to buy our home. I’ve played hockey since I was 9 years old, our two boys play hockey, and daughter loves to ice skate. Every birthday party for 4 years was at the ice rink in Dallas. Needless to say, we are a skating family. We found a home within walking distance to the lake.
Since we live so close and have a love for skating, we are out on the lake in the winter every chance we get. We purchase a season pass for the kids each year so they can embrace the 8.5 groomed acres of ice of this 40-acre lake. The rinks are well groomed and somewhat even. With any lake ice rink, there are cracks to learn to avoid that a Zamboni can’t fix. Speaking of Zamboni, Evergreen Lake is home to the world’s largest Zamboni-groomed outdoor ice skating rink.
In the winter, the lake hosts not only skating, but the annual Polar Plunge, and pond hockey tournaments. It has 11 pond hockey rinks and one huge public skating rink. With the backdrop of the Rocky Mountain foothills and the scenic Evergreen Lake House, why would you go skate anywhere else? People come from all over the US just to experience ice skating on this lake. Inside the lake house, where you can rent your skates, there is a giant stone fireplace where you can warm your toes as you sip on hot chocolate and snacks offered at the concession area. You are welsome to bring your own skates and hockey equipment. Just make sure you pay for your season or day pass.
