We wanted to share with you some of the top things on our list that we love about living in Evergreen Colorado. We have lived here for about twelve years and can say that moving to Evergreen has been one of our best decisions. I live here with my wife, and three children and of course my cute dog named Hamilton. Check out the Video below to learn more about what it is like to live in Evergreen Colorado.
#1 Outdoor Activities
My number one thing we love about living in Evergreen Colorado is all the outdoor activities that are accessible without me having to even leave Evergreen. I enjoy hiking, mountain biking, ice hockey, snow skiing and go fly fishing. There are also many other outdoor activities to enjoy like golf (2 golf courses in Evergreen), camping, canoeing/boating at Evergreen Lake, white water rafting, rock climbing, cross country skiing, road biking, motorcycling, Jeep trails, etc. Colorado is truly an outdoor playground.
Fly Fishing:
I can go fly fishing at Evergreen Lake or in Bear Creek which extends all the way through Evergreen and down to Morrison. There are multiple open space parks I can access Bear Creek from like O’fallon Park and Lair O’ The Bear park. Rainbow trout and brown trout are the most common fish found in Bear Creek.
Hiking & Mountain Biking:
One of the things I love most about Evergreen is that there are at least 8 open space parks that consist of thousands of acres that can be used for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and more. My house also backs right up to the forest so I can even walk right out my back door and go hiking in nature. One of the most popular places for a quick hike is around Evergreen Lake. It is approximately a 1.3 mile loop. I love the fact that we live in such close proximity to these open space parks and I can be at any one of the trail heads with in a few minutes. I don’t have to plan my day out, pack food, and drive an hour or spend half my day on an outing.
Ice Hockey:
During the Winter time Evergreen Lake freezes over and is converted into a recreational area with one major ice skating rink and 8+ hockey rinks. Evergreen Lake is the largest outdoor Zamboni groomed ice skating rink in the world. My son and I love to play ice hockey and Evergreen Lake is only a few minutes from my house. Again, I love the convenience and outdoor amenities this town offers.
Snow Skiing:
Evergreen actually has its own snow skiing resort called Echo Hills. Evergreen is also about an hours drive to world class skiing at popular resorts like Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper, Loveland and Winter Park. You can easily go skiing in the morning and be home for dinner.

#2 Abundance of Wildlife
My number two thing I love most about Evergreen is abundance of wildlife and I am not talking about my kids :). Just about every time I am outside or driving in my car I experience some kind of wildlife whether it be deer, elk or fox. Deer are very common and there is a large herd of elk that roam throughout the Evergreen area. I have on several occasions encountered an elk traffic jam when traveling throughout town. Other animals you will see here are black bears, chipmunks, red tailed hawks, bald eagles, and an occasional moose. The wildlife that is present here truly makes Evergreen a magical place. I love it!

#3 The People
Evergreen is a small mountain town that consists of about 10,000+ people. Life runs at a little slower pace here and you have time to meet and get to know your neighbors. We all watch out for each other and we do life together. One of the great things about living ins a small community is if you have kids then you can keep a closer eye on them and you often know if they are up to trouble before they ever get home. The people are active and friendly here and are always ready to partake in fun outdoor activities with you. Overall, Evergreen is a fantastic place to raise a family.
#4 The Community
The community in Evergreen is a close knit group of people who moved here primarily to enjoy the mountain lifestyle that Evergreen offers. The people in Evergreen are friendly, active and very involved in supporting the community. Downtown Evergreen and Evergreen Lake & local events can be a great place to mingle with and do life with the locals. Evergreen hosts many local events such as The Evergreen Lake Music Festival, Dam Duck Derby, Chili Cook Off, Art Festival, Polar Plunge, Skate The Lake New Years Eve with fireworks, Downtown Trick Or Treat, Downtown Holiday Walk, Rodeo Parade, and various other music festivals each year. Evergreen also hosts sporting events like marathons, road biking events, and triathalon events. Evergreen is also located within 25 minutes of Denver where you can access and enjoy major museums and cultural arts associated with the big city.
Overall you can see why we love living in Evergreen Colorado. It is an amazing place to live and if you enjoy nature while still being near a major city then Evergreen should be high on your list to check out.
