St. Mary’s Glacier, one of my favorite hikes is just East of Idaho Springs on I-70. It is a short hike to a beautiful alpine lake that is fed by the melting glacier. The tranquil lake is glass like and completely transparent. Feel free to take a dip if you can dare the cold water. There are a lot of wild flowers to enjoy. The glacier is available year round so it is fun to see especially if you have never seen a glacier before. The overall length of the hike is 1.5 miles round trip. The hiking path to get to the lake is pretty rocky so keep that in mind. There Be sure to bring at least $5 cash for the designated parking. If you are visiting Evergreen, St. Mary’s Glacier is only about 30 minutes West. I encourage you to explore this amazing hike. Length: Approx. 1.5 miles roundtrip Highlights: Picturesque lake, year round snowfield Difficulty Rating: Beginner Elevation Gain: Approx. 380 ft.
