One of my favorite parts of Halloween here is seeing all the little ghouls and goblins come out in their costumes for the Downtown Evergreen Halloween Walk. Each year, downtown merchants welcome families for trick-or-treating, giving kids a chance to walk from business to business, collect some candy and enjoy the Halloween atmosphere.
It has become a fun local tradition and a great way for families to celebrate Halloween together. If you’re planning Halloween in Evergreen this year, there are plenty of ways to enjoy it, whether you head downtown for the Halloween Walk, take part in an organized event or simply spend some time enjoying the fall atmosphere around town.

There is more going on around Halloween than just trick-or-treating.
For 2026, Evergreen’s October calendar includes family events, the Downtown Halloween Walk, Halloween activities at the Evergreen Nature Center, Witches & Warlocks on Evergreen Lake, the EAPL Zombie Fun Run and Nightmare at 1520.
Here’s how I’d break down the main options:
Witches & Warlocks on Evergreen Lake
One of the more unusual October traditions is Witches & Warlocks on Evergreen Lake.
The 2026 event is scheduled for October 10. Participants dress up as witches, warlocks and other characters before heading onto Evergreen Lake on paddleboards. Evergreen Park & Recreation District also offers rentals for those who need one.
It isn’t a traditional Halloween party, which is part of the appeal. You get the costumes and Halloween atmosphere while still doing something outdoors at one of Evergreen’s most recognizable spots.
If you’re already planning to spend time around the lake that weekend, it’s an easy event to build into the day.
Trick-or-Treat Trail at Buchanan Park
For families with younger kids, the Trick-or-Treat Trail is one of the easier options to plan around.
The 2026 event is scheduled for Friday, October 30, from 4 to 8 PM at Buchanan Park Ball Fields. EPRD lists trick-or-treat booths, inflatables, food trucks and other activities. Tickets are required for trick-or-treaters, while the other ball-field activities are free to the public.
I like this kind of event for families who don’t want to spend Halloween night driving between neighborhoods. Everything is in one place, and you can leave when the kids have had enough.
Halloween at Evergreen Nature Center
If your kids like animals and nature as much as they like candy, Evergreen Nature Center has a Halloween event on October 30 from 4 to 7 PM.
The 2026 program includes spooky nature exploration, a spooky passport, a mad scientist lab, skull identification, a nocturnal room and live animal ambassadors. The event is free, and no registration is required.
This is one I’d keep in mind if you want something that feels a little different from a standard Halloween event.
The Downtown Evergreen Halloween Walk
For many families, the Downtown Evergreen Halloween Walk is the main event on Halloween itself.
In 2026, the walk is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, from 4 to 6 PM in Downtown Evergreen. Participating boutiques and restaurants will be providing treats for children in costume.
This is probably where I’d start if you’re looking for a straightforward family Halloween.
There’s something nice about seeing kids walking around downtown in costumes while local businesses get involved. You aren’t trying to cover miles of neighborhood streets. You can park, walk around, collect some candy and enjoy the atmosphere.

I’d still check the event information before heading out, especially if the weather looks questionable.
Are There Trunk-or-Treat Events in Evergreen?
Yes. Trunk-or-treat can be a good choice if you’re planning Halloween with younger kids.
The idea is simple. Instead of walking from house to house, children move between decorated vehicles and collect treats. Everything happens in one location, which makes it easier for parents to keep an eye on the kids.
Aspen Hollow Trunk or Treat is listed for October 31, 2026, and Aspen Ridge Church lists the event as a free, family-friendly Halloween activity.
If this is the kind of Halloween your family prefers, I’d check the event details before going since times and activities can change.

Halloween doesn’t have to start after sunset.
If I’m planning a fall day in Evergreen, I’d leave some room for something seasonal before the costumes and candy come out. October is a great time to be outside here, although the weather can turn quickly.
A simple family day could look like this:
- Start with a pumpkin patch or fall activity.
- Spend some time around Evergreen while there’s still daylight.
- Head downtown or to your planned Halloween event.
- Keep a warm layer in the car.
- Head home when the kids have had enough.

What Indoor Halloween Options Are Available?
The weather is probably the first thing I’d consider when planning Halloween in Evergreen.
A fall afternoon can feel comfortable, but once the sun drops, the temperature can change quickly. That’s especially true with younger kids who may be happy outside for an hour and suddenly very ready to warm up.
Evergreen Nature Center’s Halloween program is one option that gives families something to do indoors while still keeping the Halloween theme.
For something much scarier, Nightmare at 1520 is scheduled for select nights throughout October, including October 29, 30 and 31. The haunted house is located at Buchanan Park and is rated PG-17, with supervision required for kids.
So if your idea of Halloween is less candy and more jump scares, that is probably the better fit.
For anything else, I’d check the current local listings rather than assuming an older Halloween event is still happening.
What Should You Wear for Halloween in Evergreen?
This is one place where I’d plan the costume around the weather, not the other way around.
A costume can look great when you leave the house in the afternoon and feel very different once the sun goes down. Layers underneath can make a huge difference.
I’d also pay attention to footwear. If you’re walking around downtown, standing outside or moving between activities, comfortable shoes are going to matter more than they seem when you’re getting everyone dressed.
For an outdoor Halloween evening, I’d consider:
- A warm base layer under the costume
- A jacket that can fit over or under the costume
- Comfortable shoes or boots
- A hat if the forecast calls for it
- Gloves for younger children
- An extra layer in the car
You don’t have to ruin the costume to stay warm. A little planning underneath it usually does the trick.
What Is Halloween in Evergreen Actually Like?
The part I like most about Halloween in Evergreen isn’t necessarily the candy. It’s the change in atmosphere around town.
The evenings are darker, the air has that cold October feel, and suddenly you see kids everywhere in costumes. Downtown feels busier, local businesses get involved, and families have a reason to slow down and spend some time together.
It feels like a small-town Halloween, but with the foothills as the backdrop.
And that’s probably why I wouldn’t try to make the night too complicated. You don’t need five different stops. A couple of good activities, some time downtown and a warm drink afterward can be plenty.
How Should You Plan Halloween in Evergreen?
If I were planning the day, I’d choose the main event first and build everything else around it.
- Start in the afternoon.
Do something seasonal while there’s still daylight. A pumpkin patch or fall activity works well. - Check the weather.
Look at the forecast before leaving and bring an extra layer. Mountain weather doesn’t always follow the plan. - Choose one main Halloween activity.
For younger kids, that might be the Trick-or-Treat Trail or Downtown Evergreen Halloween Walk. - Leave some breathing room.
You don’t need to schedule every minute. Evergreen is more enjoyable when you’re not rushing from one place to another. - Know when to call it a night.
If you’re with younger kids, remember that Halloween excitement can disappear pretty quickly once they’re cold and tired.

That’s what I like about Halloween here. It doesn’t need to be a huge production.
You can spend the afternoon enjoying fall, head into town for a Halloween event, walk around downtown in the evening and be home before everyone gets too tired.
