Are the Schools Good in Evergreen Colorado?
If you are thinking of moving to Evergreen Colorado and you have children, one of your top questions is going to be “are Evergreen Co schools good?”. I have prepared the most comprehensive info on Evergreen area schools that span both Jefferson County and Clear Creek county so that you can get an in depth feel for what is going on with schools.
Evergreen Colorado Public Schools
Overall Evergreen Colorado public schools get good ratings and typically rank amongst some of the top schools in Colorado. For Example, Evergreen high school has about 1,100 students and ranks in the top 5% of all Colorado High Schools. Evergreen High School is a National Blue Ribbon School, twelve-time John J. Irwin Award winner and one of Newsweek/Washington Post’s top 500 high schools.
The public schools have very good ratings and there are a variety of types of schools available ranging from public, charter, private to homeschools. Evergreen high school has about 1,000 students and as of 2016 is ranked 13th out of 245 Colorado High Schools. Evergreen High School is a National Blue Ribbon School, twelve-time John J. Irwin Award winner and one of Newsweek/Washington Post’s top 500 high schools.
Evergreen has 7 schools. One of the highest rated schools is Bergen Valley Intermediate School, with a rating of 10. It has 336 students. The public schools in Evergreen are in Jefferson County R-1 School District or Clear Creek Re-1 School District. Gilpin County Re-1 School District is nearby and is rated worse than Jefferson County R-1 School District. Nearby Sheridan 2 School District scores lower, with a rating of 4.
John Irwin Award of Excellence:
The John Irwin awards are given to schools that demonstrate excellent academic achievement. On the three-year school performance framework that is used by the state to evaluate schools, these schools “exceed” expectations on the academic achievement indicator.
Open Enrollment – Jefferson County
Jefferson county schools have open enrollment. What this means is that you don’t have to attend your assigned school as long as their is availability for enrollment at the desired Jefferson County school. It is also my understanding that if you live in the area of Evergreen that is in Clear Creek County then you can enroll in Evergreen / Jefferson County schools. (Note – you must verify this with your school & district)
Evergreen Spans Two Counties and Two School Districts
It’s important to understand that Evergreen spans two counties and three school districts. West Evergreen will bleed into Clear Creek County of which the schools are not ranked as high as Jefferson County schools. It is my understanding that West Evergreen residents can attend Evergreen schools only if there is sufficient room. You would have to verify this for sure by calling the desired Evergreen school you wish your child to attend.
South Evergreen can have your child attending Marshdale Elementary and West Jefferson Middle School and Conifer High School which are both in Conifer. Conifer schools are in Jefferson county and are highly ranked schools as well. My two older children have gone to Conifer High School and we have had an excellent experience. If you live in South Evergreen and desire for your children to go to Evergreen Middle School and Evergreen High School then you can get on the list and gain access as long as there is room.
